Wicked fans can add a new 50p coin to their collection as The Royal Mint marks 20 years of the hit West End musical, with editions starting from £19.50.

Fans of the West End phenomenon Wicked can now get their hands on a magical new 50p coin, launched by The Royal Mint to celebrate 20 years of the show in London.

The special edition coin commemorates two decades since the musical first opened its doors at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006. Since then, nearly 14 million people have flocked to see the show, which has been performed over 7,500 times.

The coin's reverse side is packed with iconic imagery from the show, including Elphaba’s hat and broomstick, Glinda’s wand and shoes, the mysterious Grimmerie spellbook, a flying monkey, and even the Wizard of Oz in his hot air balloon.

Available in various editions, prices for these collectable coins kick off at £19.50. Some designs even feature the show's distinctive green and pink colour palette, bringing the magic of Oz to life.

For those with deeper pockets, a gold edition has been struck using recycled gold, as The Royal Mint pushes to use sustainable materials for all its collectable gold coins by the end of 2026. Each coin comes in special packaging inspired by the London stage production.

Tim Mulhall, head of fandom at The Royal Mint, said: “For millions of fans around the world, Wicked isn’t just a musical, it’s a story that stays with you long after the curtain falls.”

He added: “This collection lets fans hold a piece of that magic in their hands: a coin that captures the friendship, the flying broomsticks and the unforgettable colours of Oz.”

The musical tells the untold story of the characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, exploring the complex relationship between Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked London stated: “We are proud to have Wicked immortalised on an official UK coin as part of our landmark anniversary.”

The coins officially launch at 9am on September 17 and can be snapped up from The Royal Mint’s website. And if that wasn't enough, Wicked advent calendars, featuring a colour coin behind door 24, are also set to be released soon.
