Eligible Healthy Start users can claim an extra £3 a week for six weeks, with the retailer also preparing for Halloween shoppers.
Sainsbury’s is bringing back extra support for families on low incomes, offering eligible NHS Healthy Start users an additional £3 a week to spend on healthy food in the run-up to Christmas. The supermarket’s top-up will run for six weeks, giving families more help buying fruit, vegetables, beans and pulses at a time when household budgets can come under extra pressure.
The offer is available to eligible scheme users in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, who can apply to receive a £3 eGift card by email each week from 18 November 2026. The cards can be used in Sainsbury’s stores and online to buy fresh, frozen, tinned and dried fruit and vegetables, as well as beans and pulses. Those interested must register by 11.59pm on 9 November 2026 through the Sainsbury’s Healthy Start registration page.
The NHS Healthy Start scheme provides eligible low-income families with a prepaid card that is topped up every four weeks to help them buy healthy food for young children. Sainsbury’s previously trialled a top-up in 2021, before the scheme moved to digital payments.
They found that customers redeeming a top-up coupon bought an average of 13 more portions of fruit and vegetables per basket than those who did not. Sainsbury’s hopes its latest offer will encourage more retailers to consider similar support.

With Halloween approaching, Sainsbury’s is also offering shoppers plenty of options for getting into the spooky spirit without needing to spend a fortune. Its seasonal range includes Halloween decorations and tableware, giving families the chance to dress up their homes or create a themed table for a Halloween gathering.
For anyone planning a party or a night of Halloween fun, the supermarket also has Halloween party items and seasonal bakery treats to explore. Whether you’re putting together a spooky spread for friends or looking for a few festive touches for the children, these seasonal options offer another way to get ready for the end-of-October celebrations.
