The fight that has been in the works for nearly 18 months finally hit the ring on Saturday night and was dubbed as ‘The Heaviest Boxing Match in History.’

Strongmen Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson had agreed to fight back in November 2020 but an injury to former Britain’s Strongest Man, Hall, meant the fight was postponed.

The pair both have numerous awards in strength athletics but little to no boxing experience.

This was to be Hall’s first fight while it would be the fourth for the Icelandic Mountain, Bjornsson.

The two former World’s Strongest Men met each other in the ring at 1am in the Dubai Desert in front of a sparse crowd and the Mountain prevailed to win the grudge fight.

Hall started well and looked to be in control in the first round and hoped to land a one-punch knockout.

Bjornsson was also troubled early in the fight after being given a count in the second round.

However, the 33-year-old soon came back into the fight as he looked to control the bout with his jab.

He then dropped Hall in the third and sixth round, securing victory by a points decision.

The third round saw Bjornsson send Hall crashing into the canvas, leaving the Englishman woozy and lacking control.

While Hall appeared to have the upper hand at the beginning of the next round, he struggled to capitalise on his early lead and, as his exhaustion grew, Bjornsson was able to use his height and finish off the fight.

After the match, the Icelandic Mountain said: “It feels amazing, I’ve been working my ass off for two years. I had such a good team around me who have supported me all the way through.

“On my behalf (the rivalry is over), understandably he seemed angry still, he lost the fight. There are a lot of feelings right now.

“If he wants a rematch I’ll take one no problem.

“(Hall) put up a hell of a battle. I’d never been dropped in training so he really can punch hard. But today I believe boxing technique won.”

The Mountain beat Britain’s former strongest man by points decision 57-54. All three judges agreed and gave the Icelandic strongman the nod.

As Thor won the fight, Eddie Hall must now get “World’s Strongest Man: Hafthor Julius Bjornsson” tattooed on him.

Following the Mountain’s comments, Hall said: “You know what, I can take things as a man. It is what it is, that’s boxing. At the end of the day I’ve just fought the biggest man on the planet in a boxing match. I’d like to see anyone else get the balls and do that.

“It’s been a hell of a journey; I’ve enjoyed it and hopefully there’s a rematch and we can do business again.”
