Jayden Spears: who is Britney Spears’ son, what did he say about mum in ITV interview - how did she respond?

Britney Spears’ youngest son, Jayden, has spoken about his mother and her social media use, conservatorship and why he and older brother Preston missed her wedding to partner Sam Asghari.

Per a piece by Daphne Barak for the Daily Mail, Jayden spoke with Barak, a documentary filmmaker, in a new interview set to air on ITV News on Friday (2 September).

What did Jayden Spears say in the interview?

Jayden said that his and brother Preston’s relationship with Spears can “100% be fixed”.

Jayden said: “It’s going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better I really want to see her again.”

He touched on her social media use, which Spears’ ex-husband and father of her sons, Kevin Federline, previously told ITV News “hurts” the boys.

Jayden said: “Social media helps her… So if that’s what she wants to do, that’s what she wants to do, I’m not going to hate her for that.

“At the same time, she should come to the realisation of whatever it is that stops her loving her family.”

He added: “It’s almost like she has to post something on Instagram to get some attention. This has gone on for years and years and years and there’s a high chance that this will never stop but I’m hoping for me that she will stop.”

Speaking about his brother, Preston, Jayden said: “I think [Spears] has struggled giving us both attention and showing us equa love and I don’t think she showed enough to Preston and I feel really bad for that.

“We’ve both been through so much pressure in the past that this is our safe place now, to process all the emotional trauma we’ve been through to heal, heal our mental state.”

What did Jayden say about Britney Spears’ conservatorship?

Jayden said that his grandfather, and Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, “doesn’t deserve all the hatred he is getting in the media” and that Spears is “ceasing to realise how much [Jamie] cares for her”.

Regarding Jamie’s role in Spears’ conservatorship, which was lifted in 2021 after 14 years, Jayden said that Jamie was “just trying to be a father”.

He said: “At first [Jamie] was trying to be like any father letting her pursue his daughter’s dream of becoming a superstar but I think maybe the conservatorship went on too long, probably why my mum is very angry about the whole situation that she was working for too long and I personally think she was.

“She should have taken a break and relaxed.”

He also said that Spears’ mother, Lynne, and brother Bryan “are not bad people”.

He said: “They know what we are going through right now. They want our future to be hat we want it to be.

“They just want to watch over us. Memow and Uncle Bryan are a good part of our lives.

“They have taught me how to deal with things.”

Why didn’t Jayden and Preston go to Britney Spears’ wedding?

Jayden said that, at the time, “it just wasn’t a good time to go”.

He said: “I’m not saying that I’m not happy for her, I’m really happy for them, but she didn’t invite the whole family and then if it was just going to be me and Preston, I just don’t see how that situation would have ended on good terms.”

Spears married her long time partner Sam Asghari at her home on 9 June earlier this year.

Her first husband, Jason Alexander, attempted to crash the wedding when, armed with a knife, he broke into her home.

Alexander was arrested and later charged with two counts of misdemeanour battery, one count of misdemeanour vandalism and one count of misdemeanour trespassing.

Who is Kevin Federline?

Federline is Spears’ ex-husband and father to her two sons, Jayden and Preston.

He is an American singer and a former backup dancer who was married to Spears for two years after the pair tied the knot in 2004.

Spears gave birth to their first child, Preston, in September 2005, and their second, Jayden, in September 2006.

After Spears filed for divorce from Federline in November 2006, the couple initially agreed to shared joint custody of the two boys, however Federline was later granted sole physical and legal custody of their children in 2008 shortly before the singer was placed under her conservatorship.

Federline went on to marry former volleyball player Victoria Prince. Prior to their wedding, Prince gave birth to her first child, and Federline’s fifth, in August 2011 - daughter Jordan Kay.

Spears took to Instagram to respond to the things that her son said in the upcoming interview.

The statement, in full, read: “I’ve tried my best at being the best person I can be… to be basically held hostage in homes under nurses and bulls**t I hope my kids one day understand my reasoning of my play in water revealing myself as any woman would being held under blankets and upservision under the conservatorship !!!

“Finally at 40 without the restraints of what my family did to me… I say to my son Jayden that I send all the love in the world to you every day for the rest of my life !!! My love for my children has no boundaries and it deeply saddens me to know his outcry of saying I wasn’t up to his expectations of a mother … and maybe one day we can meet face to face and talk about this openly !!!

“Maybe dear child YOU can explain to me why our family would do that to anyone !!! I helped your father who hasn’t had a job in 15 years … I assume it is easier for you guys not to have someone check on you to make sure you’re doing your homework !!!! I’m sure the standards of your dad smoking weed every day benefits your daily life at 15 and 16 to partake in a VERY COOL GENERATION !!!

“I completely understand your need to live with your father as I had to play the perfect role for 15 years for absolutely nothing. I’m so happy I was able to carry 4 tours, judge X Factor and WAAAY more … I did that for you.
