Niall Horan joins Kelly Clarkson and Chance the Rapper as New Coaches on The Voice US

Niall Horan is returning to his singing competition roots as he joins Kelly Clarkson and Chance the Rapper as the new coaches on The Voice US.

The One Direction alum, 29, from Mullingar, has crossed the pond to share his wealth of  experience with the contestants on season 23.

Niall will be of extraordinary help to the new talents on the NBC show after he rose to fame through coming third on the X Factor in 2010 alongside One Direction members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik.

The British group disbanded in 2016, but Niall is swapping his bandmates for a new panel of singers as he joins The Voice US coach Blake Shelton who has been on the show for 22 seasons.

Niall lines up with Grammy-award winning artists Chance the Rapper and Kelly Clarkson, who are signing up for the NBC show.

The three musical experts will replace the current coaches John Legend, Camilla Cabello and Shelton’s wife Gwen Stefani.

The Slow Hands star revealed the news in a cryptic Instagram post where he shared a single emoji of hands doing the peace sign, synonymous with The Voice’s logo, and tagged the Since You’ve Been Gone singer.

The three other judges posted similar images before NBC officially announced the coaching panel for the 2023 series.

People flooded the comment section with approval for the line-up and the new additions, with one saying, “I’m so excited to see Niall on the Voice,” while another added, “Niall is going to be amazing.”

A user responded to the post, “Blake, Kelly, Niall, Chance…what a line up,” as a fan of Niall tweeted: “I want to apply for The Voice just to meet Niall but I can’t even sing, and I’m absolutely not American.”

Niall spoke about his upcoming venture saying: “I’m excited to be joining this season of The Voice as a coach. I am looking forward to meeting and mentoring the new crop of talent while we battle it out with other teams.”

Following the positive news, country singer Blake Shelton who has been on the show since it first aired 12 years ago, announced that the 2023 season of The Voice US will be his last.

In a shared post with the singing show, Blake said he had been considering this move for quite some time.

He said: “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC.

“I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson [Daly, the host of the show] and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!”

Blake continued to thank the contestants from the show and the fans, stating the series “would not happen” without them.

The Voice US season 23 will air in spring next year as the current season of the NBC show continues.
