Aldi is giving away £5,000 in shopping vouchers to help students buy fresh fruit and veg as they head into university life.
Aldi has launched a £5,000 giveaway to help students with fresh fruit and vegetables during Freshers Week. The supermarket is offering 500 students a £10 voucher each, intended for fresh produce. This scheme is open to new and returning students to support healthy, balanced meals on a budget.
To enter, students must email [email protected] with their name, age, a valid UK university email address, and the dish they plan to make. The competition closes at midnight on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, stated: “Freshers Week is an exciting time, but whether students are leaving home for the first time or heading back after summer, building healthy routines on a budget can be a challenge. At Aldi, we want to help students feel confident making affordable, balanced choices, which is why we’re giving away £5,000 in vouchers to help them stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables as term begins.”
Aldi shared five tips for students to eat well for less.
Freeze food when space is limited. The freezer can be useful if fresh fruit and vegetables won't be used immediately. Leftover vegetables can be used in soups, pasta sauces, stir-fries, or curries. Fruit can be frozen for breakfasts or smoothies. Freezing sauces, chopped vegetables, or leftovers flat in bags or containers saves space.
Rotate three simple dinners. Instead of cooking many meals, stick to easy bases like jacket potatoes, pasta, or stir-fries, and vary toppings and extras weekly. Peppers and onions can be added to pasta, jacket potatoes topped with salad, and quick fridge stir-fries can use leftover vegetables.
Build a budget basket with staples such as oats, rice, pasta, beans, lentils, and eggs, then add fresh produce for variety. Tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, and peppers can increase fruit and vegetable intake.
Keep an eye on Aldi’s Super 6 fruit and vegetable offers, which change fortnightly. Checking offers first helps students plan meals around fresh produce, from pasta to wraps, salads, and tray bakes.
Finally, consider reduced items. Red sticker reductions provide fresh food for less. Reduced fruit is suitable for breakfasts, snacks, or smoothies, and reduced vegetables can go into soups, tray bakes, omelettes, or pasta sauces. Many items can be cooked and frozen if not eaten immediately.
