Ethan Shone is a senior reporter for NationalWorld.com focused on news, investigative reporting and public-interest journalism, particularly around politics, lobbying and the ‘revolving door’ between Parliament and business. He is also interested in industrial disputes, public policy and local government. A former freelance journalist with bylines in the Observer, Private Eye, Tribune and more, he was chief reporter at the investigative news startup The Overtake before joining National World in late 2020. He worked across the entire group, writing for titles including the Yorkshire Post, Scotsman and Sheffield Star, before joining the NationalWorld.com team upon its launch in March 2021. He was nominated as part of the company-wide investigations team for the Paul Foot award in 2021 for a project on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, and was nominated the following year for ‘Investigation of the Year’ at the Media Freedom Awards for his #PartTimeParliament project, which highlighted the extent and scale of ‘second-jobs’ culture in Westminster. Originally from West Yorkshire and now based in Edinburgh, he can generally be found at the cinema, in one of the city’s many libraries or walking his rescue dog Percy along the Water of Leith. Ethan is always happy to be contacted via email with story tips, feedback or to discuss the trials and tribulations of Leeds United.
